Bow Thruster

This good looking Alden 52 had already had a bowthruster fitted, however, it was giving unsatisfactory performance and wasn’t helping guide the boat into its moorings. The problem was not only caused by an underpowered thruster but also by the fact that the thruster tube was positioned too far back from the bows. This meant that it wasn’t getting effective leverage needed to swing the bows in safely.
Osmotech’s systems team removed and re-sealed the old tube
and re-bored another closer to the bows, with a specially sculpted ‘eyebrow’ to
help reduce drag and noise, and fitted a Sidepower SP125 thruster. The team also fitted joystick controls at the
helm and on the flybridge, and teamed them up with a pair of radio remote
controls – allowing the owner to dock the boat single-handed and from anywhere
on the boat.
