'The brief for this custom 47 was to build a yacht with light air performance, uncluttered decks and that could be sailed easily by two people. To make a 47 foot yacht easy to handle short-handed and still perform was a challenging task, so the starting point was a hull with both stability and a proven racing pedigree.

With the client's detailed input, Osmotech looked at three different rig options and settled on a cat' rig designed and built by Tom Wylie of Wyliecat in California. This not only provided us with very few control lines and the uncluttered deck that the client was after, but also created a very different and unique looking performance yacht.
In designing and constructing the interior our biggest challenge was to incorporate modern equipment and a full entertainment system without compromising the clean, minimalist design in the brief. Osmotech installed a generator, water-maker, dual-zone air conditioning, flat screen TV, DVD, stereo, electric toilets fore and aft, a fresh water system with hot water for more than a couple of showers, a hidden galley with induction hob and many other ingenious features.
This special custom cruiser is a great example of how Osmotech's practicality and expertise can work closely with a client's 'out of the box' ideas and deliver a radical looking, yet useable yacht that exceeded all expectations, both on the water and below decks. Throughout this project there were many "professionals" that felt compelled to explain to us why it would not work and why it would not perform. We're very proud to say - they were wrong!' |
