GRP Core Replacement
To repair a damaged core can be relatively straight forward if the affected area is only covering a small area. Complications arise when you have large areas of detachment or water ingress into the GRP core.
The worst scenario is wet balsa core, this unlike closed cell foam will degrade over time and requires complete replacement.
We have had to remove the complete bottoms of boats to replace water damaged core. It is a highly skilled job that requires a naval Architect to ensure that the boat is not structurally affected in any way.
